Hope Chest Journey – Day 4

One of the things on our to do list is to reevaluate our Holiday traditions.  Are they Christ focused?

With this in mind I began a search at LDS.org and found a great article by Elaine Cannon, “Consider Christmas,” Ensign, Dec 1973, 5

The article is broken down into three segments with wonderful ideas in each area.

  • Unto the Least of These – Service to others
  • Good Tidings – Sharing the message
  • My Joy is Full – Traditions

This article seemed to focus on a theme that my husband and I had regarding our Christmas traditions.  So at a Family meeting we discussed the article and listen for suggestions.  The children liked these ideas.

Unto the Least of These: Plans for a service project will be to members of our ward making felt Christmas Stockings filled with goodies.    The girls and I will make the stockings and have help from everyone on a FHE to fill them.  http://christianhomekeeper.org/blog/easy-simple-felt-christmas-stockings/

Good Tidings: For this area we are working on a nativity play, reading and Cristmas carol sing.  There will be a light dinner of traditional food from our area.  We will invite a variety of people to come dressed in costume for our nativity.   Guests will have an opportunity to participate in the nativity, reading parts and singing Christmas Carols as they come in the program.   The script is just about ready.  We haven’t decided on time but perhaps Christmas Eve.

Some of our experiments haven’t always turned out well but it is my hope that with a little planning on our part that there will be valuable experiences and memories for us all.
