Shoes define the activity

in Home Education

Until this week, I never thought of defining a home school activity’s success by the number of shoes that are piled at the door.  It was pretty amazing to see the different kinds of shoes (slippers too) as much as the growing number.  It is so much like home schoolers that get together from all walks of life because they share the common interest, educating their children.

In Qatar new families come sporadically but the biggest times are September, January and June.   Despite all the challenges of moving overseas, it is interesting to see how quickly families come together to build friendships, learn the local area, share triumphs as well as challenges in the process of teaching their children.  This year I’ve enjoyed this process more than others.  Perhaps because I’m more relaxed about it and more than likely I see hope.  The proof is in the pile of shoes stacked at the door.
